On Saturday, July 27, volunteers Dwight Maxey, Colin Mellin, Kendall Crouch, Bruce Davis, Reid Adams, Dannis Hudson, Henry Falko and Paul Brown spent the day moving dirt and gravel. Our first task was to clear out some more gravel and rock from our main running track over by the power plant near the end of our run track. This was a continuation of a long standing project to open more track to run on, and to be able to inspect and replace ties. The crew worked well in the heat, and we were able to clear up three different areas on the main track.
We then took a quick lunch break and then jumped into the second project. We are going to start building out the track that will allow access to the street car we have stored in the shop. The area outside of this stall has an asphalt pad, so we want to save as much of this as possible. Today’s work consisted mostly of cutting the asphalt for a clean edge. We did start to remove some of the asphalt to see what surprises the ground underneath held. The initial plan for this track will be to get about 80 feet built out away from the shop, so watch for more work to come on this one!
I have included a few pictures of the action today.
