On Saturday, October 19, volunteers Dwight Maxey, Polly Cotton, Dannis Hudson, Bruce Davis, Ben Pollard, and Paul Brown braved some morning rain showers to get some work done. With rain falling, the crew decided to do a quick repair to one of our locomotive seats that was getting a bit wobbly. After a little disassembly, it was found that a large washer would fix the issue. That and a little grease to lubricate the swivel, and we were back in business. Then we jumped into the job of spiking the rails down on the track we have been working on in the yard. This work took the crew a couple of hours and since Polly doesn’t like to drive spikes, she worked on decorating the cabooses for our Halloween event next week. The crew then took a late lunch.
After lunch, we installed the locomotive seat back into the cab, and cleaned up all the tools used to spike the track in the morning. Then the entire crew jumped into the MOST IMPORTANT WORK AT THE MUSEUM…PULLING WEEDS! It took about an hour, but we were able to clean up the area where we keep equipment parked on the shop tracks, and stuff our 4 yard trash dumpster full! The work made a noticeable difference, and we even found some equipment that we thought we had lost!
I have included a few pictures of today’s work.
