Paul’s Blog – November 1, 2025

On Saturday, November 1, volunteers Dwight, Bruce, Dannis, Jerod and Paul spent the day cleaning up our equipment. We started with our cabooses and cleaned out the Halloween decorations, some trash and candy left behind by our guests at the Halloween event. We then spent a couple of hours doing a thorough cleaning of the cabs of Engine 103 & Engine 104. The cabs were vacuumed and then wiped clean with hot water, while the windows were also cleaned. It is really nice to see the years of dust cleared away from most of the surfaces!

The crew then took a quick lunch break before heading over to the collection area and starting a project to clean the cab of our General Electric U30C known as D.O.T. 001. This locomotive has been at the Museum for many years and barely gets any attention. Some of our younger members have expressed an interest in cleaning this locomotive and working to make it more presentable. Some debris was removed from the cab, and then a thorough vacuuming was completed. Some of the crew did a quick cleanup of weeds that have blown into the area around the equipment on display. We finished up by inspecting some track on our shop leads for a future project.

I have included a few pictures of the cleaning action. If you are not able to see the pictures, click here to go to our Blog Page.
