On Saturday, November 15, volunteers Dwight, Colin, Bruce, Jerod, Dannis, Nick, and Paul got busy doing some cleaning in the cabooses to be ready for our event next weekend. The windows and floors got the most attention, with the floors even getting mopped! After the cleaning was finished, we headed out to the switches on the shop lead tracks to raise and secure a piece of track through the switch points. The crew learned how much work it is to tamp a bit of rock under cross ties! We were able to lift one rail enough to line up better with the switch point, making it easier to throw the switch.
After a quick lunch break, Engine 103 was fired up and made ready for our equipment move. Our Haunted Railcar was returned to the shop tracks, where it will slumber away until it is time to get spooky again next year. While running the engine around, we checked out how our new spur track would handle the weight of a locomotive. It did just fine, though there is much work to do before it goes into regular service. We then tied up the engine and cleaned up to head home.
I have attached a few photos from today’s work. If you are not able to see the photos, click here to go to our Blog Page.
