Paul’s Blog – October 11, 2025

On Saturday, October 11, volunteers Dwight, Colin, Bruce, Dannis, Henry, Nick, Scott and Paul continued the weed clearing work on our main running track, and then moved on to the installation of a switch stand for our under-construction shop lead tracks.

The crew took a quick lunch break, and then split up to get a couple more projects done. Dannis, Henry and Nick worked to set up a small display in the shop. Bruce, Scott and Paul finished installing the switch stand, while Dwight and Colin were checking out our generator and other equipment that needed some attention. Paul, Dannis, Henry and Nick finished up the day cleaning up some items stored in the shop yard.

I have included a few pictures of the work done. If you are not able to see the pictures, click here to go to our Blog Page.

Paul’s Blog – October 4, 2025

On Saturday, October 4, volunteers Dwight, Colin, Kendall, Dannis, Nick, Henry and Paul gathered to get the most important job at the Museum done…pulling out and cleaning up the weeds that grow all over the place! The crew cleared weeds from along the tracks in the shop yard, and also got to some along our main running track. With that work done, it was time to take a lunch break.

After lunch, the crew spread out over several small projects including working on our Massey Ferguson forklift, arranging tools in the shop, and a bit of work to the air horn on Engine 104. We then fired up Engine 103 so that we could move our Haunted Railcar to the Depot area to get things ready for the Halloween event coming on October 25th. After completing that work we tied up for the day.

I have included a few pictures of the work done. If you are not able to see the pictures, click here to go to our Blog Page.

Back To School Train, Saturday, September 20!

Paul’s Blog – September 6, 2025

On Saturday, September 6, volunteers Dwight, Colin, Ben, Bruce, Reid, Nick, Dannis, Henry, Drew, Bryan, Kendall and Paul all participated in a highly anticipated day of projects. The main project of the day was to raise our C&S Caboose to roll one of it’s trucks out to be turned around and placed back under the caboose with the brake rigging properly configured. In order to do that project, several other things had to happen. Engine 102 was started and moved out of the shop to make way for the caboose truck to be brought outdoors. Engine 102 pushed our caboose train out of the way, and while it was outside later in the day, it got some spot cleaning done and a repair to one of its air horns done. The Caboose truck was rolled out to our first grade crossing where the rotation work would be done, due to the stable ground and relatively flat surface. We used the Hi-Rail boom truck and the Bobcat skid steer to lift the truck and rotate it around. The truck was then rolled back to the shop area, cleaned up a bit and then reinstalled under the C&S Caboose.

After lunch, the crew cleaned up some of the equipment used for the morning’s lift, did a bit of clean-up inside the caboose, and moved a draft gear lift over to another shop track. Engines 103 & 104 were started, taken out of Multiple Unit configuration, and then some switching was done to rearrange the two locomotives and set up the caboose train behind Engine 104 for our next event. To finish out the work day, speeders and the gang car that were moved earlier in the day were returned to their regular storage spot. The crew was hustling all day with multiple small tasks, and we were in many places all at once. Everyone stayed safe and had fun, and some even learned a bit more about freight train brakes!

I have included a few pictures of the main truck work done today to show what was accomplished. If you don’t see the pictures, click here to go to our Blog Page.

Paul’s Blog – August 30, 2025

On Saturday, August 30, volunteers Dwight, Colin, Ben and Paul spent a short day working on things to prepare for the next work day Sept 6th. The group worked to place a Draft Gear lift back onto the rails that has been hiding for years under the C&S Caboose, before working to get air jacks and other materials to help raise the C&S Caboose next week for the truck work. The springs on the trucks are in the way of the jacking pad, so another method was devised to lift on the main framework under the car. The group also located some parts for a future track work project.

After a quick lunch break, the crew enjoyed the afternoon while test running the Gang Car after some repairs were made. As usual, the Gang Car had a stubborn moment with some fuel issues, but after that was figured out, the crew burned up the rails test running the car.

I have included a few pictures of today’s major work and the Gang Car running. If you are not able to see the photos, click here to go to our Blog Page.

Paul’s Blog – August 23, 2025

On Saturday, August 23, volunteers Dwight, Colin, Ben, Dannis and Paul spent the day in the shop cleaning some areas and organizing some tools. The first task was cleaning off the workbench near the front of the shop. As most work benches do, it had become a catch-all, so trash was removed and clutter was cleared. Next we cleared the radio charging/storage shelves in the shop office, again too much clutter. Next we set up a dedicated area for the battery chargers for the battery tools we use. After a lunch break to cool off, it was time to organize a big tool box that we use to store the powered tools and some other bigger items. A desk was moved, some old batteries went outdoors, and some general clean up was finished. The last task was to do some planning for work on the C&S Caboose that is in the shop.

The shop always needs some work, and today was the day it got some things done. I captured a few pictures of the work and the crew. If you are not able to see the pictures, click here to go to our Blog Page.

Paul’s Blog – August 16, 2025

On Saturday, August 16, volunteers Ron, Jackie, John, Dwight, Colin, Kendall, Ben, Doug, Nick, Dannis, Polly, Reid and Paul worked hard to give our 81 guests a day to remember with a train ride in one of our three cabooses or the GP7 locomotive. The warm temps didn’t keep anyone from smiling as it seemed that everyone was enjoying themselves. Our advertising and Facebook event posts seem to be attracting a few more people to each of our events, which helps the Museum very much.

I have included a few photos showing our crew hard at work, and visitors having fun. If you are not able to see the photos, click here to go to our Blog Page.

Railfan Day – August 9, 2025

Paul’s Blog – August 2, 2025

On Saturday, August 2, volunteers Dwight, Colin, Chris, Reid, Bryan, Dannis, Abel, David and Paul tackled a large list of projects to get things ready for our first Railfan Day next weekend. The crew worked on some track projects, cleaning out crossings, cleaning and lubricating track switches, power washing some equipment, mowing and clearing weeds from the site, starting and checking two of our GP7s and then setting them up for multiple unit operation, and attaching flag holders to Engine 103. We then had to test the GP7 operation and move some equipment around. This work kept everyone moving!

For all the work that did get done today, there were a few items on our list that we just ran out of time and couldn’t get completed. Hopefully nobody notices next week during the event. For information regarding our Railfan event on Saturday 8/9, click here.
