On Saturday, September 18, Colin Mellin, Dwight Maxey, Tyler Seeley and Paul Brown made it out to the shop to take on the task of removing four of the batteries from Engine 103. The group successfully removed the batteries, one of which was damaged due to freezing last winter, and cleaned up the battery compartment on the engine, which was thoroughly rusted. There was enough rusted metal in there that it needed to be shoveled out! Then we were able to find a new floor and modify it to fit. Just another chore that needs to be completed when you operate 70 year old locomotives!!
I have included a few pictures to illustrate the work done today.
